The Picture House presents

AN EVENING WITH SUSAN SARANDON

Sunday, August 1st | 6:30 Wine reception | 7:00 Screening | Q&A

Join us as we welcome Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon to the theater for a discussion about her career and the film ATLANTIC CITY.  The evening will begin with a wine reception at 6:30, followed by a 30th anniversary screening of the film at 7:00.  Also starring Burt Lancaster and directed by Louis Malle, ATLANTIC CITY garnered Ms. Sarandon her first Oscar nomination.  She later went on to be nominated four more times, winning for her role in DEAD MAN WALKING.

ABOUT ATLANTIC CITY

Burt Lancaster stars as Lou, an aging mob flunkey, barely making a living in Atlantic City. Susan Sarandon plays Sally, a casino croupier whose husband Dave (Robert Joy) steals a large supply of drugs from the mob. When he is killed, the narcotics pass to the unwilling Sally. Lou, in the midst of longtime affair with middle-aged gangster's widow Grace (Kate Reid), falls for the much younger Sally, becoming her savior by killing the mob thugs sent to shut her up. The killings serve a therapeutic value for Lou, proving that he hasn't lost his old panache. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Picture House

Several years ago a group of concerned citizens in lower Westchester organized to save the 1920s Pelham Picture House, now listed on the NY State Register of Historic Places, from the wrecking ball. The Picture House, recently restored and renovated, is now an independent film and education center. The Picture House entertains audiences with great movies – indies, foreign films, classics, shorts, animated films and documentaries from around the world. By inviting, actors, directors, producers, screen writers, and film critics to discuss their work, we bring the back lot to our front door.
